People usually don't begin therapy because life has become difficult overnight.

More often, they arrive after months or years of carrying burdens that have become too heavy to manage alone. Anxiety has become exhausting. Relationships feel disconnected. Old hurts continue to shape new experiences. The same frustrating patterns keep repeating despite genuine efforts to change.

Helping people understand and change those patterns is the heart of my work.

I'm a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and founder of Fairmount Mental Wellness. I earned my Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology and have spent my career helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life's most challenging seasons with curiosity, compassion, and practical direction.

I work with adults and couples facing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship conflict, grief, burnout, life transitions, and the lingering effects of painful past experiences. I also have a particular interest in working with couples recovering from infidelity, helping partners understand the injuries beneath the conflict while determining whether healing, reconciliation, and renewed trust are possible.

Hi, I’m Rich Dempsey

Clients often describe me as thoughtful, calm, and deeply engaged. I don't believe therapy is about offering quick answers or simply giving advice. Instead, I see our work as a collaborative process of discovery to understand how your experiences have shaped the way you think, relate, protect yourself, and move through the world.

I sometimes describe therapy as an archaeology of hope. Together, we'll carefully uncover the beliefs, emotions, and patterns that have developed over time and not to judge them, but to understand them. As we do, new possibilities begin to emerge, creating space for healthier relationships, greater confidence, and a life that feels more aligned with who you truly are.

My approach integrates evidence-based therapies with a deep respect for each person's unique story. Whether you're struggling with overwhelming anxiety, feeling disconnected from your spouse, questioning your sense of purpose, or simply recognizing that something needs to change, my goal is to create a space where you feel understood, challenged, and supported.
